Jason Perryman Sr. Brings New Orleans Cuisine to Alabama with Creole Connection

Jason Perryman Sr. is no stranger to business endeavors. The 40 year old Birmingham native has been fully self employed since 2011, owning a trucking company and a daycare.

After a lot of traveling with his wife, a few trips to New Orleans in particular, Perryman decided to bring some of the New Orleans cuisine to Birmingham. He opened his first restaurant, Creole Connection in October 2023. There is one location in Birmingham, Alabama and now one location in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that recently opened this year.

What has been the biggest positive learning experience since going into the restaurant business?

Learning customers and how to best serve the community. The Tuscaloosa location and Birmingham are really different. For example, I sell more way more salmon in Birmingham.

What’s your favorite menu item at Creole Connection?

Catfish Orleans. It’s blackened catfish over dirty rice. Topped with gravy or seafood sauce.

I see that the Birmingham location is staying open late after midnight some days now. How did that come about?

One night my wife and I were leaving the movies and had nowhere to eat besides McDonald’s and Waffle House. So the idea came along.

Is that something you will be bringing to Tuscaloosa?

Unfortunately not. There’s a city ordinance in Tuscaloosa for restaurants to be closed by 11pm.

What is something you would like your current and potential customers to know?

There is more to come. Just please stay tuned.
