With his unique and color plating style and technique on white plates, Kimani Allen earned the alias, “White Plate Picasso”.
Washington, D.C. native, Chef Ki started cooking professionally in the US Army. That’s where he received his food service education. Once he got out of the military he attended PG Community College’s Culinary School.
Chef Ki is currently in a competition titled Favorite Chef by Carla Hall. The prize is $25,000. He’d like to use the prize money to create a non profit for children in poverty stricken food deserts across D.C.
So before I got my food truck I was working for the DC Public school system as a cafeteria manager. It would sadden me to see just how many children came to school everyday after not eating dinner the night before. It would also sadden me that they had no knowledge of nutritional literacy or the importance of having a balanced meal. If I could create something to not only feed them but show them how to feed themselves while teaching them the importance of food and how it has a positive effect on the body and brain, I think that I could change the narrative in a lot of our poverty stricken communities.
